Sunken Love

Rip Rig & Panic was one of my favourite bands in the early 80s. I loved the wildness of their songs, the voices, the piano, the instrumental tracks.

I do remember sitting in the train in 1988 and reading The Face i had just bought. Or Blitz? Hmm, not sure. Anyway, my eye fell on this article about a new singer, Neneh Cherry. The name rang a bell. And then i realized i knew her, she was the singer of Rip Rig & Panic. More mainstream, still feisty.

This song is from Rip Rig & Panic’s third album Attitude. This track i always loved. Never looked up the lyrics until today. Harbor a horror i always heared as habahareeree. Well.. i’m learning these lyrics now by heart.

I added three other songs from God, their first album. The best!

Sunken Love – Rip Rig & Panic
Whirlpools of wonder
Try to wash away a memory
Unfathomable leaks of thought
Lost in the deep blue me
Below the calm surface
Pain flows to and fro

Sunken love
Chasing drowned sorrow
Harbor a horror
‘Til tomorrow

Plunged into dark dark depths
Anchor where secrets are kept
Dark feelings, mystery voyages

Try to avoid those forgotten ages

Sunken love
Chasing drowned sorrow
Harbor a horror
‘Til tomorrow

Don’t worry, don’t fear
Drowned loves will reappear
Reserve a scene within that vessel
Destiny

So don’t mourn
‘Cause everything is reborn.

Until You Come Back To Me

I had one album by Aretha Franklin, a The Best Of. With her major hits: Respect, Chain of Fools, Say A Little Prayer, Rock Steady. And also this song on it, Until You Come Back To Me. I always loved this song. Only today i found out it was a big hit in 1973. I had no idea. I also didn’t know Stevie Wonder is one of the writers.

The bridge part is hard for me. When i sing along with the music, it is a lot easier, but a cappella it is a hard switch to make to those lines.

Living for you my dear
Is like living in a world of constant fear
In my plea, I’ve got to make you see
That our love is dying

I do like my version. It is a lot softer, quieter. Very close into the microphone. I hope you will enjoy it.

Until You Come Back To Me – Aretha Franklin
Though you don’t call anymore
I sit and wait in vain
I guess I’ll rap on your door
Tap on your window pane

I want to tell you baby
The changes I’ve been going through
Missing you, listen you
‘Til you come back to me
That’s what I’m gonna do

Why did you have to decide
You had to set me free?
I’m gonna swallow my pride
I’m gonna beg you to please
Baby, please see me

I’m gonna walk by myself
Just to prove that my love is true
Oh, for you baby
‘Til you come back to me
That’s what I’m gonna do

Living for you my dear
Is like living in a world of constant fear
In my plea, I’ve got to make you see
That our love is dying

Although your phone you ignore
Somehow I must
Somehow I must, I must explain
I’m gonna rap on your door
Tap on your window pane

I’m gonna camp on your step
Until I get through to you
I’ve got to change your view, baby
‘Til you come back to me
That’s what I’m gonna do

‘Til you come back to me
That’s what I’m gonna do

‘Til you come back to me
That’s what I’m gonna do

I’m gonna rap on your door
Tap on your, tap on your, tap on your
Tap on your window pane
Oh my baby, I’m gonna rap on your door
Tap on your window pane

Oh, ba-ba-baby
Oh, ba-ba-baby
Oh, ba-ba-baby
Tap on your window pane

Oh, ba-ba-baby
Oh, ba-ba-baby
Oh, ba-ba-baby

Keep On Movin’

A guilty pleasure. Keep On Movin’ sung by 5ive. Always liked this song. Yay!

Keep on movin’ – 5ive
I woke up today with this feeling
That better things are coming my way
And if the sunshine has a meaning
Telling me not to let things get in my way

When the rainy days are dying
Gotta keep on, keep on trying
All the bees and birds are flying
Never let go, gotta hold on in
Nonstop ’til the break of dawning
Keep on moving don’t stop rocking

Get on up when you’re down
Baby, take a good look around
I know it’s not much but it’s okay
Keep on movin’ on anyway

Feels like I should be screaming
Trying to get it through to my friends
Sometimes it feels that life has no meaning
But I know things will be alright in the end

When the rainy days are dying
Gotta keep on, keep on trying
All the bees and birds are flying
Never let go, gotta hold on in
Non stop ’til the break of dawning
Keep on moving don’t stop rocking

Get on up when you’re down
Baby, take a good look around
I know it’s not much but it’s okay
Keep on movin’ on anyway

When the rainy days are dying
Gotta keep on, keep on trying
All the bees and birds are flying
Never let go, gotta hold on in
Non-stop ’til the break of dawning
Keep on moving don’t stop rocking

Get on up when you’re down
Baby, take a good look around
I know it’s not much but it’s okay
Keep on moving on anyway

Get on up when you’re down
Baby, take a good look around
I know it’s not much but it’s okay
Keep on moving on anyway

Get on up when you’re down
Baby, take a good look around
I know it’s not much but it’s okay
Keep on moving on anyway

Get on up when you’re down
Baby, take a good look around
I know it’s not much but it’s okay
Keep on moving on anyway

Keep on moving
Keep on moving
Keep on moving

Call Me Maybe

I only recently converted to a fan of this song, Call Me Maybe. I should listen to Carly Rae Jepsen music more. I like her songs. To be honest, my version is very hesitant. I still like it though. The original surpasses mine way beyond of course.

🙂

Call Me Maybe – Carly Rae Jepsen
I threw a wish in the well
Don’t ask me I’ll never tell
I looked at you as it fell
And now you’re in my way

I trade my soul for a wish
Pennies and dimes for a kiss
I wasn’t looking for this
But now you’re in my way

Your stare was holding
Ripped jeans
Skin was showing
Hot night
Wind was blowing
Where you think you’re going baby?

Hey I just met you
And this is crazy
But here’s my number
So call me maybe
It’s hard to look right at you baby
But here’s my number
So call me maybe

Hey I just met you
And this is crazy
But here’s my number
So call me maybe
And all the other boys
Try to chase me
But here’s my number
So call me maybe

You took your time with the call
I took no time with the fall
You gave me nothing at all
But still you’re in my way

I beg and borrow and steal
At first sight and it’s real
I didn’t know I would feel it
But it’s in my way

Your stare was holding
Ripped jeans
Skin was showing
Hot night
Wind was blowing
Where you think you’re going baby?

Hey I just met you
And this is crazy
But here’s my number
So call me maybe
It’s hard to look right at you baby
But here’s my number
So call me maybe

Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
I missed you so bad
I missed you so so bad
Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
And you should know that
I missed you so so bad, bad, bad, bad….

It’s hard to look right at you baby
But here’s my number
So call me maybe

Hey I just met you
And this is crazy
But here’s my number
So call me maybe
And all the other boys
Try to chase me
But here’s my number
So call me maybe

Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
I missed you so bad
I missed you so so bad
Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
And you should know that
So call me, maybe

Everybody Wants to Rule the World

Everybody Wants to Rule the World. The thought of singing this song only crossed my mind last week. I do have the album Songs from the Big Chair, but it did fade into the background over the years. It’s still not prominent to me really, but the thought of singing this song was enticing. It stuck.

A couple of weeks ago i made a playlist with the sing along songs on Spotify. I’m adding some new songs to this list, so i can sing along with them as well and make up my mind. Today i added Everybody Wants to Rule the World and decided straightaway to sing this one. I do have some difficulty with the final two words of the title. They do go quite low, too low for me really. I did try some variations, but it sounds completely different when i go up at the end. And shifting the key of the entire song makes it way too high for me. So yeah, sorry, but this is how it goes for me right now.

I do sing along with these songs a couple of times a week. I like the songs, i like the singing along and it is a training for my voice. I do feel, after an hour or more that i can sing better. A bit anyway.

I hope you will like it. Enjoy!

Tears For Fears – Everybody Wants To Rule The World
Welcome to your life; there’s no turning back
Even while we sleep we will find
You acting on your best behavior
Turn your back on mother nature
Ev’rybody wants to rule the world

It’s my own desire, it’s my own remorse
Help me to decide. Help me make the most
Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

There’s a room where the light won’t find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do, I’ll be right behind you
So glad we’ve almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Ev’rybody wants to rule the world

I can’t stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world
Say that you’ll never, never, never, need it
One headline, why believe it?
Everybody wants to rule the world

All for freedom and for pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

Searching for Mr Right

I had taped the album Colossal Youth from the Young Marble Giants. I did enjoy playing it. Lots. This song i always liked, but there was also something withholding me from confessing that. I don’t think i ever was searching for mr Right. I was searching for my work, searching for something satisfying to do for a living. I always felt i would simply bump into mr Right one day. I still feel that. So i don’t think about it much. Well, a bit. Maybe. At night. 🙂

Searching for Mr Right – Young Marble Giants
Searching for Mr Right
Waiting up half the night
Feeling like I’ll be dead
Before I’m old
Teaching myself to be
The Young Untold
How can I hope to be
Someone for you to see?
Blind as the Fate decrees
I will go on
Teaching myself to be
The Young Untold
Am I in vain tonight?
Lose you against the light
Who can you be
Mr Right?

The Greatest Love of All

Whitney!

In the late 80s i had a love/hate thing with Whitney Houston. I did buy her first two albums. I did try to sing along with her songs. She was very beautiful. She had a great voice. She was something completely alien to me. I simply couldn’t imagine what her life was like, how she could be happy with what she was doing. I even made some works with her portrait photocopied. I had this link between Whitney, me and the painting the Girl with the Pearl earring from Johannes Vermeer. I made drawings of all three.

My Whitney obsession did fade away over time. I was shocked though when i saw the pictures of that time she was so skinny. I was also shocked when i heard she had died, in 2012.

On my MIX playlists i have one song, Saving all my love for you. A few months ago i listened to some more songs from her and this one stood out for me. My version is not so technically advanced of course. I still like it.

Especially for you

Especially for you. Performed by Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan. Written and produced by Stock Aitken Waterman. I love this song. Always have. From the start. I have the single!

The song was released in November 1988.

It is of course a song about love working out. The two lovers are back together. This seems to be the moment in which they talk about the past, how hard it was for them and how they both maintained their resolution to stick together. Finally, they somehow got back together and they rejoice in their love for each other.

If only life could be that simple. 🙂

Especially for you – Kylie & Jason
Especially for you
I wanna let you know what I was going through
All the time we were apart, I thought of you

You were in my heart
My love never changed
I still feel the same

Especially for you
I wanna tell you I was feeling that way too
And if dreams were wings
You know, I would have flown to you

To be where you are
No matter how far
And now that I’m next to you

No more dreaming about tomorrow
Forget the loneliness and the sorrow
I’ve gotta say, it’s all because of you

And now we’re back together, together
I wanna show you, my heart is oh so true
And all the love I have is especially for you

Especially for you
I wanna tell, you mean all the world to me
How I’m certain that our love was meant to be

You changed my life
You showed me the way
And now that I’m next to you

I’ve waited long enough to find you
I wanna put all the hurt behind you
And I wanna bring out all the love inside you

Oh, and now we’re back together, together
I wanna show you, my heart is oh so true
And all the love I have is especially for you

You were in my heart
My love never changed

No more dreaming about tomorrow
Forget the loneliness and the sorrow
I’ve gotta say, it’s all because of you

And now we’re back together, together
I wanna show you, my heart is oh so true
And all the love I have is especially for you

Together, together
I wanna show you, my heart is oh so true
And all the love I have is especially for you

Together, together
I wanna show you, my heart is oh so true
And all the love I have is especially for you

I don’t know how to love him

I saw the movie Jesus Christ Superstar twice in the early 70s. With my mum. I was around nine years old. At home we had the soundtrack. I played it so many times. I sang along with it. This song was one of my loves. It has faded over the years. But i do remember that one time friends of mine turned it on and talked about it. They loved it too!

I did add the entire soundtrack to my Spotify playlists, but i didn’t listen to it yet. I hope i have time for it soon. If only for old times’ sake.

I don’t know how to love him – Yvonne Elliman
I don’t know how to love him
What to do, how to move him
I’ve been changed yes really changed
In these past few days when I’ve seen myself
I seem like someone else

I don’t know how to take this
I don’t see why he moves me
He’s a man he’s just a man
And I’ve had so many men before
In very many ways he’s just one more

Should I bring him down? Should I scream and shout?
Should I speak of love? Let my feelings out?
I never thought I’d come to this
What’s it all about?

Don’t you think it’s rather funny
I should be in this position
I’m the one who’s always been
So calm, so cool, no lover’s fool
Running every show, he scares me so

I never thought I’d come to this
What’s it all about

Yet if he said he loved me, I’d be lost, I’d be frightened
I couldn’t cope, just couldn’t cope

I’d turn my head, I’d back away
I wouldn’t want to know
He scares me so, I want him so
I love him so
