I Am the Walrus

Last week i saw the following video on youtube I recreated “I Am The Walrus” from scratch. I have a subscription to his channel and i enjoy most of video’s he places.

While watching this i started to feel so stupid. This is a gem of a song. How could i have overlooked this one for so long? Then again, there are so many overlooked songs in the world. I looked up the lyrics and started to sing along. Of course i know this song. But i didn’t really know the lyrics by heart. I still don’t. A bit better now though.

I hope you enjoy this πŸ™‚

I Am the Walrus
I am he as you are he as you are me
And we are all together
See how they run like pigs from a gun
See how they fly
I’m crying

Sitting on a corn flake
Waiting for the van to come
Corporation T-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday
Man you’ve been a naughty boy
You let your face grow long

I am the egg man
They are the egg men
I am the walrus
Goo goo g’joob

Mr. City policeman sitting
Pretty little policemen in a row
See how they fly like Lucy in the sky
See how they run
I’m crying
I’m crying, I’m crying, I’m crying

Yellow matter custard
Dripping from a dead dog’s eye
Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess
Boy, you’ve been a naughty girl
You let your knickers down

I am the egg man
They are the egg men
I am the walrus
Goo goo g’joob

Sitting in an English garden
Waiting for the sun
If the sun don’t come you get a tan
From standing in the English rain

I am the egg man (How do you do sir?)
They are the egg men (The man maintains a fortune)
I am the walrus
Goo goo g’joob, goo goo goo g’joob

Expert, texpert choking smokers
Don’t you think the joker laughs at you (Ho ho ho, hee hee hee, hah hah hah)
See how they smile like pigs in a sty
See how they snide
I’m crying

Semolina Pilchard
Climbing up the Eiffel tower
Elementary penguin singing Hare Krishna
Man, you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allen Poe

I am the egg man
They are the egg men
I am the walrus
Goo goo g’joob, goo goo goo g’joob
Goo goo g’joob, goo goo goo g’joob, goo goo

Strawberry Fields Forever

Strawberry Fields Forever
Let me take you down, ’cause I’m going to
Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry Fields forever

Living is easy with eyes closed
Misunderstanding all you see
It’s getting hard to be someone, but it all works out
It doesn’t matter much to me

Let me take you down, ’cause I’m going to
Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry Fields forever

No one I think is in my tree
I mean, it must be high or low
That is, you can’t, you know, tune in, but it’s all right
That is, I think it’s not too bad

Let me take you down, ’cause I’m going to
Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry Fields forever

Always, no, sometimes think it’s me
But you know, I know when it’s a dream
I think I know, I meanβ€”erβ€”yes, but it’s all wrong
That is, I think I disagree

Let me take you down, ’cause I’m going to
Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry Fields forever
Strawberry Fields forever
Strawberry Fields forever

Mad World

“Mad World”
(originally by Tears for Fears)

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere

Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head, I wanna drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I’m dying
Are the best I’ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It’s a very, very mad world, mad world

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
And I feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen

Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what’s my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I’m dying
Are the best I’ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It’s a very, very mad world, mad world

Enlarging your world
Mad world

Nothing Rhymed

December last year i had this song in my mind, Nothing Rhymed written by Gilbert O’Sullivan. For a week or two, later at night, this song played in my mind. I learned the lyrics. Over the next few months i sang this song wile walking. I knew i would do something with this. Sing it.

So today i did. Not in my room, but in the bathroom, with a little more distance between my face and my iphone. It is quieter.

I do still remember Gilbert O’Sullivan from the early 70s. I was never a fan.

Right now, i actually do love this song. So here it is.

Nothing Rhymed
If I give up the seat I’ve been saving
To some elderly lady or man
Am I being a good boy?
Am I your pride and joy?
Mother please, if you’re pleased, say I am

And if while in the course of my duty
I perform an unfortunate take
Would you punish me so
Unbelievably so
Never again will I make that mistake

This feeling inside me could never deny me
The right to be wrong if I choose
And this pleasure I get
From say winning a bet
Is to lose

When I’m drinking my Bonaparte Shandy
Eating more than enough apple pies
Will I glance at my screen
And see real human beings
Starve to death right in front of my eyes

Nothing old, nothing new, nothing ventured
Nothing gained, nothing still-born or lost
Nothing further than proof, nothing wilder than youth
Nothing older than time, nothing sweeter than wine
Nothing physically, recklessly, hopelessly blind
Nothing I couldn’t say
Nothing why ’cause today
Nothing rhymed

This feeling inside me could never deny me
The right to be wrong if I choose
And this pleasure I get
From say winning a bet
Is to lose

Nothing good, nothing bad, nothing ventured
Nothing gained, nothing still-born or lost
Nothing further than proof, nothing wilder than youth
Nothing older than time, nothing sweeter than wine
Nothing physically, recklessly, hopelessly blind
Nothing I couldn’t say
Nothing why ’cause today
Nothing rhymed

Your Song

Yesterday while we were closing down the garden someone said the words It’s a little bit funny and i immediately started singing this song. I didn’t know the full lyrics, but someone else knew the next line. So we sang. Together.

On my way home i sang this song. Especially beautiful in the tunnel underneath the train rails.

Today i looked up the lyrics and sang along with some youtube clips. And i recorded it. Lovely song. I hope one day i will have learned it by heart.

This one is for you. πŸ™‚

Your Song

It’s a little bit funny, this feeling inside
I’m not one of those who can easily hide
I don’t have much money, but boy if I did
I’d buy a big house where we both could live

If I was a sculptor, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a traveling show
I know it’s not much, but it’s the best I can do
My gift is my song, and this one’s for you

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple, but now that it’s done
I hope you don’t mind, I hope you don’t mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you’re in the world

I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss
Well, a few of the verses, well, they’ve got me quite cross
But the sun’s been quite kind while I wrote this song
It’s for people like you that keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting, but these things I do
You see I’ve forgotten if they’re green or they’re blue
Anyway the thing is what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I’ve ever seen

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple, but now that it’s done
I hope you don’t mind, I hope you don’t mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you’re in the world

I hope you don’t mind, I hope you don’t mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you’re in the world

Once more The “Sweetest Girl”

My favourite song. Absolutely. Once again πŸ™‚

I did forget i had made a post with this song already. A bit embarrassing. I will leave this post online.

Scritti Politti – The “Sweetest Girl”
Sweetest girl in all the world
His eyes are for you only
Sweetest girl in all the world
His eyes are for you only
Sweetest girl in all the world
His words have died before me
Sweetest girl in all the world
His words have died before me

When they walk in the park, I never can tell
When they walk in the dark, I never can tell
It’s just loving – ooh loving

The sweetest boy in all the world
His life has got so lonely
Sweetest boy in all the world
His life has got so lonely
Sickest group in all the world
How could they do this to me
The sickest group in all the world
How could they do this to me

What I want I will take, what you think that you know
Oh such an awful mistake to never let go
It’s just loving – ooh loving

The weakest link in every chain
I always want to find it
The strongest words in each belief
Find out what’s behind it
Politics is pride too
Vagaries of science
She left because she understood
The value of defiance

When the government falls, I wish I could tell
When, oh when necessity calls, I never can tell
It’s just loving – ooh loving

Sweetest girl in all the world
These words are for you only
Sweetest girl in all the world
These words have died before me

When they walk in the park, I never can tell
When they walk in the dark, you know that it never can be told

Abbey Road

The album Abbey Road by the Beatles is fifty years old today. To be honest, up until today i thought of Revolver and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearths Club Band as their best. I’m undecided right now. No idea if ever in my lifetime i will decide which is the best one for me. I do really like this one though πŸ™‚

I watched De Wereld Draait Door Wednesday evening which was devoted to this album entirely.

First reaction: Bohemian Rhapsody

The original first of all: Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, 1975

No singing by me, this post shows reactions of people on hearing this song, sometimes for the first time. How that works i don’t know. There is a kids clip in this selection, they often know this song. I can not imagine how you can live in this world and not know this song.

And so many more!

A little bonus, the Live Aid performance by Queen

The last bonus, Wayne’s World Bohemian Rhapsody:

Heart of Gold

The past few weeks, whenever this song came along, my heart jumped up. I have known this song since the early 70s. I did have the album, but i sold it when i was around sixteen years old. Still regret it to this day.

I hope you enjoy this version.

Neil Yong
Heart of Gold
I want to live, I want to give
I’ve been a miner for a heart of gold
It’s these expressions I never give
That keep me searchin’ for a heart of gold
And I’m getting old
Keep me searchin’ for a heart of gold
And I’m getting old

I’ve been to Hollywood, I’ve been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean for a heart of gold
I’ve been in my mind, it’s such a fine line
That keeps me searchin’ for a heart of gold
And I’m getting old
Keeps me searchin’ for a heart of gold
And I’m getting old

Keep me searchin’ for a heart of gold
You keep me searchin’
And I’m growing old
Keep me searchin’ for a heart of gold
I’ve been a miner for a heart of gold
