Homemade moisturizer

I try to make as much as possible myself. I have been making body butter for the past four years or so, last year i made calendula salve, detergent for the past five years, i recently made a night oil to put on my face before i go to bed. Moisturizer is a big step for me though. I have been buying it, the Total Effects 7 in One perfume free Anti-ageing moisturizer from Oil of Olaz. On Jetske Ultee’s website this is one of the recommended moisturizers.

In the Total Effects moisturizer mixture is niacinamide (vitamin B3).

Niacinamide is a very effective skin-restoring ingredient that offers multiple benefits for aging and blemish-prone skin. Among these benefits is the ability to visibly improve the appearance of enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, fine lines, dullness, and a weakened skin surface.

The Ordinary sells a 10% solution. It is not expensive, €5,90, so i might give this a try.

I did research for a starting recipe. I found one through pinterest which i have changed a bit. I’m sure this will take time to get right.

Ingredients

  • Coconut Oil – 2 tablespoons
  • Beeswax – 2 tablespoons
  • Almond oil, Argan oil and Calendula oil – 1/4 cup together, most used is the almond oil
  • Shea Butter – 1 tablespoon
  • Myrrh, Frankincense, Tea Tree oil, Geranium oil, Rose oil – five drops of each

Process

  1. Take a clean jar and put the ingredients in them.
  2. In a pan, heat water till it starts boiling.
  3. Place the jar inside the pan. Do not cover the jar.
  4. Let the jar remain there till the ingredients are melted completely.
  5. Once it is all melted, get the jar out of the water and let it cool down so that the cream starts hardening.
  6. The homemade anti-ageing cream is ready

This morning i bought four more essential oils: tea tree, rose, myrrh and frankincense (wierook in Dutch). I did have some other essential oils. The geranium one seems to have good properties for ageing skin. The peppermint is for my toothpaste. I recently bought some clay powder for my toothpaste. Still need to look up a recipe for that. I also have a small collection of oils: almond, jojoba and argan oil. In late summer i will make another batch of calendula oil.

Music

Listening half the day to music. Enjoying it. This song is from the 70s. My mother played this album from Jim Croce a lot. I added one or two of his songs to my mixtapes. Liking it 🙂

That is it for today. I had planned to show all the songs played today here, copy and paste it from last.fm. But it seems there is something wrong with that list, many songs played are twice on it. Not sure why to be honest. And no desire to get into it that much. So this is it! Bye bye 🙂

Keto chocolate chip almond flour cookies

Since January this year i’ve been getting more into a keto diet. Not that i really want to loose weight, no. I want to keep my glucose level and lower. Since a year i had been eating low carb, but it didn’t really work that well. So this keto diet seemed the next step. More serious, more hardcore, less carbs, hardly any sugar, more fat, the same proteine.

I did need to find new ways to bake. I did settle mostly on almond flour and erythritol. Way more expensive, yeah, sad to say.

Today i wanted to bake me some cookies. I bought chocolate, a 85% dark chocolate. I did have all the other ingredients at home. Half the mix i’m saving in the fridge. I will bake more cookies tomorrow, and take them with me to the garden.

The almond flour tastes great. The cookie is not as sweet as usual, with the dark chocolate into it. But i love it!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1/8 cup boconut oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup erythritol
  • 1 1/2 cups almond flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 100 gr dark chocolate

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180° degrees Celsius. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or use a baking mat.
  2. Melt the butter and coconut oil.
  3. Add the erythritol and egg and mix until combined.
  4. Mix in the salt and baking soda.
  5. Add the almond flour a little bit at a time to avoid any clumping, Whisk everything together.
  6. Chop the chocolate in small bits. Fold and stir in the dark chocolate chips.
  7. Shape the dough into tablespoon cookies a few inches apart.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until it begins to brown around edges. Let the cookies cool for around fifteen minutes.
  9. The cookies taste best on the day they are baked. You can put the dough in the fridge or the freezer and bake them within a couple of days.
