Walking

This Monday morning the sun was shining. It was cold. I got dressed, put on my shoes and coat, a warm scarf and went outside.

First i walked to the garden. Yesterday i took two empty bottles with me to fill with water. Today i brought them back and put them in the shed. I watched the birds. A great tit. Yes, a koolmeesje. The pallet was back! Yesterday i couldn’t find it.

I walked past the central station. Standing at the Christmas tree for a short time, talking to the men who were getting the lights out. Wondering where the tree was headed to. Walking through the Gouvernestraat. Looking in the shop Das Brot. Still closed. Walking through the Marqt. Two months ago it closed and moved to the Nieuwe Binnenweg. Where the old Centrum Beeldende Kunst was. Nothing remains. I talked with the man behind the cheese counter for a short while.

Walking past the shops, the Westerpaviljoen, Museum Boymans. Into the Zeeman. Just curious. Buying myself a sandwich chicken curry. Sitting on the Lijnbaan and eating it slowly. Watching the faces of the people walking by. The people eating something. The children. Walking to Amac. Hmm. I don’t want to buy my new things there. No no no. I’d rather go the an Apple store.

Walking over the Meent. It is still cold. The sun is hiding behind the clouds.

Walking back home.

Green Rotterdam

Today there was a get together of people professionally interested in all the green developments in Rotterdam. Last Sunday Sander did a trial run of weed parcels. I said then i would come today, Wednesday 20 September. As it turned out, the meeting was replaced to the Peace Garden. There was still work done on the concrete pavement on the Tuin op de Hofbogen, so it wasn’t possible there.

I mainly focused on the food. I did see some people i knew from time gone by a long time ago. Good.

And now, i’m tired. Really tired. It was a bit of a rush. A photo. That is it.

Walking back home

Walking home from social security. I told them i wasn't continuing my application. They seemed to appreciate i actually came there for my appointment. It was a friendly conversation. I went to Kiem Foei and got me a small saoto soup. I was relieved. Also a bit tired.
I went past the Central Station and cleared my travel card. I can use it again now. I will stop the automatic transfer of money from my bank account. Cash money only.
The old clock on the station building. Making photos of the time.
The trams that will arrive soon
Trams going the other way. Seven and eight go past my house.
The clock on Hofplein
The clock on the city house
I went inside the old Shell building looking for Sophie. She came by on an evening opening of the Tuin on the Hofbogen. She forgot to take her reflector with her. When we talked in the garden she said she worked in the Shell building on the 15th floor. So i went up there to see if i could find her. I did!

The Peace Garden
Somewhere close, but hidden behind the flats is my house

A walk early in the morning

This morning, Wednesday 5 July, i woke up around five. I did check my rss feeds, still a bit sleepy headed. Until around half past five i decided to get out of bed. I dressed up, sliced a piece of the courgette cake i baked yesterday and went out, towards the garden. The moment i passed the Pompenburg i searched for the sun, which at that moment was only halfway up the horizon. I stood there for a short bit, in the midst of the street. It was still quiet. Fifteen to six.

I sat in the garden and slowly munched the courgette cake away. Looking up to the sidewalk where some people were already walking by on their way to work. Still very much in their own minds. I thought about making a photo on the Luchtsingel from the sunrise. The sun was higher now, still a lovely view. I walked on further.

I did a round through the center. Through the Central Station, over the Schouwburgplein, through the Lijnbaan, over the Hoogstraat, the Meent, back home.

I had short chats with several people. One who was sitting in the Biergarten. A homeless person. He offered me a cigarette. Since i don’t smoke, i said no. A plumber was just getting out of his car and getting his work stuff. He didn’t want to go to work. Another homeless person asked me if i liked the flowers i was looking at on the Schouwburgplein. I did. But i like simple flowers better than those big exotic ones.

I looked around. The sun still low. People already working. Standing outside, looking up. Other people walking fast to the station. Still inside their heads.

And me? I was thinking. Thinking about my life over the past two and a half years. I am trying to change it. Make a turn. The garden work. Meeting people who try to live their lives in their own ways as much as possible. Not tied up in a rut.

I do worry about me sometimes. Of course. But there is this distance between me and the world. And this morning i was looking at the world from the distant viewpoint. Quiet in me. Looking out at it. Cleaning up a few little things i came across. The bunch of laughing gas capsules lying on the street, which i kicked to the side. A metal drinking can and a plastic bottle lying in the grass before the Central Station which i put in a waste bucket. Many other things i simply watched. The sale of the Bijenkorf. All these names in the display windows.

When i got back home, i got back in bed. I did fall asleep. Around ten i got out again. Made me some oatmeal porridge, looked at all the photos i had made during the walk and picked the ones i liked the best. Then i watched the Tour de France. Yay 🙂

Ascension Day

Geese with their young
Not sure, i think this is a moorhen with young ones
People
A good place to sit and look out over the Kralingse Plas
Rotterdam
A crow
A tree
A duck with two young came walking by
Two yellow flowers
A shrub which looked to me enshrined in a pantylike construction
On my way back i saw two people looking at a tree. When i walked up to them, they said there were many caterpillars in the tree. They did make a silky type fabric to put on the entire tree. Looking around i could see more trees with the same fabric around them.
This is actually a bit yucky. Eew.
But i couldn't resist making a photo even closer. 🙂
