Close to You
Officially called (They Long to Be) Close to You. Written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. It was recorded earlier by other artists, Dionne Warwick, Dinah Washington, Burt Bacharach himself. But the best known version is by the Carpenters.
I got a the Best of album somewhere in the late 80s. I don’t think i bought it. It might have been an album from my parents. From that time on i got to love some of the Carpenters songs. I especially liked Karen Carpenter’s voice. I am no professional singer, so i wouldn’t know how to describe her voice. But to me it always sounded as someone really close singing softly to me. Not very high or low, no prolonged notes. Very warm. Nothing like the gymnastics a Whitney Houston can bring you.
I love this song. Enjoy!
Close To You – The Carpenters
Why do birds suddenly appear
Every time you are near?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Why do stars fall down from the sky
Every time you walk by?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
On the day that you were born the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair
Of gold and starlight in your eyes of blue
That is why all the girls in town
(Girls in town)
Follow you
(Follow you)
All around
(All around)
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
On the day that you were born the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair
Of gold and starlight in your eyes of blue
That is why all the girls in town
(Girls in town)
Follow you
(Follow you)
All around
(All around)
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
(Why? Close to you)
(Why? Close to you)
(Haa, close to you)
(Why? Close to you)
